County Administrator
The County of Madison is seeking our first County Administrator in an upstate, rural county located in central New York State; someone who will represent the County with the utmost integrity and professionalism, lead our ground-breaking effort to introduce a pay-for-performance system, and continue with the mission of creating, promoting, and maintaining a safe, dynamic, economically viable and socially responsive community for the present and future residents of Madison County.
Madison County is about 25 miles east of Syracuse, New York with a population of 70,000, a public sector workforce of approximately 750 employees and an annual operating budget in excess of $100 million. The County Administrator is responsible for the day-to-day operation and administration of the county government, developing both short-term and long range objectives including capital improvement programs in conjunction with department heads and legislative committees, and providing supervision and oversight to 29 diverse county departments. The County Administrator reports directly to a 19 member Board of Supervisors. Candidates must be well-versed in public administration and/or management, with a strong record of professional accomplishments. Applicants must possess outstanding communication skills, critical thinking abilities and exceptional interpersonal qualities. A Master’s degree in Public Administration, Business Administration or a closely related field and at least five years of progressively responsible, full-time administrative experience including budget management and supervisory responsibilities, or a Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration, Business Administration or a closely related field and at least seven years of the aforementioned experience, or a Bachelor’s degree and at least nine years of experience as described above, or graduation from high school or possession of an equivalency diploma and at least fifteen years of the previously mentioned experience is required. As a Public Officer, you must become a resident of Madison County within a reasonable period of time following appointment. Competitive salary is commensurate with experience.
