Tourism Marketing Manager

 

This is a full time, provisional, managerial position in the Greene County Department of Economic Development, Tourism and Planning.  Permanent appointment is contingent upon Civil Service examination.

This is a professional position responsible for planning, coordinating, and managing the tourism destination marketing plan and integrated campaigns of Greene County.  The incumbent is given wide leeway in the performance of job duties and tasks.  The incumbent works closely with public and private industry and trade groups to market the facilities and attractions of Greene County.  The incumbent works under the direction and administrative supervision of the Director of Economic Development, Tourism and Planning, Supervision is exercised over lower level professional and clerical staff.  Does related work as required.

Position requires a thorough knowledge of media production, communication and dissemination techniques, thorough knowledge of the practices and techniques of destination marketing, advertising, and public relations; thorough knowledge of communication and media technology; good knowledge of the English language; good knowledge of principles and practices for providing customer services; ability to perform communication skills excellently and effectively both orally and in writing; ability to form and maintain partnerships with media, industry, regional tourism promotion agencies and the I LOVE NY State tourism office; ability to perform public speaking; ability to prepare reports; ability to supervise; ability to use web and on-line advertising, customer database management and tracking systems electronic e-mail and computer software; ability to organize and pay attention to details; tact; courtesy; initiative; and professional business appearance. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:   

A.         Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered four year college or university with a Bachelor’s Degree in advertising, marketing, journalism, or communication, or related field and three (3) years experience consistent with the operational needs  of a tourism destination marketing office; OR

B.         Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered four year college or university with an Associate Degree in advertising, marketing, journalism, or communication, or a related filed and five (5) years of experience consistent in the operational needs of a tourism destination marketing office; OR

C.        Graduation from high school or possession of high school equivalency diploma and seven (7) years experience consistent in the operational needs of a tourism destination marketing office; OR

D.        An equivalent combination of training and experience.
