Genesee County’s Mary Pat Hancock Elected Vice President of the
New York State Association of Counties

September 22, 2009

County delegates from across the state last week elected the Chair of the Genesee County Legislature, Mary Pat Hancock, to serve as second vice president of the New York State Association of Counties (NYSAC) during their annual meeting, which convened on September 17, 2009 in Saratoga County during NYSAC’s annual Fall Seminar.

“Mary Pat has proven to be a wise voice on the NYSAC Board and a committed advocate for counties. We are pleased our members have elected her to serve in this leadership capacity,” said NYSAC President Tom Santulli, Chemung County Executive.

Hancock has served on the NYSAC Board of Directors since 2005, representing the 8th Judicial District on the board, comprising Allegany, Cattaraugus, Chautauqua, Erie, Genesee, Niagara, Orleans and Wyoming Counties. Niagara County Chairman William Ross will now represent the 8th Judicial District.

“I am honored to serve as vice president and I look forward to continuing to work with county colleagues from across the state to address the serious challenges we face,” said the Honorable Mrs. Hancock.

Mrs. Hancock has served on the Governor’s Task Force on Local Government Reform, and is a 2002 recipient of the New York State Senate Women of Distinction Award. She currently serves on the Genesee Finger Lakes Regional Planning council and is Vice Chair of the Genesee Transportation Council.

“New York county leaders are facing unprecedented challenges in governing and we are fortunate to have Mary Pat Hancock of Genesee County to dedicate her talent, passion and commitment in a leadership position,” said NYSAC Executive Director Stephen Acquario.

The New York State Association of Counties is a bipartisan municipal association serving all 62 counties of New York State including the City of New York. Organized in 1925, NYSAC’s mission is to represent, educate and advocate for member counties and the thousands of elected and appointed county officials who serve the public.
