Statement from Stephen J. Acquario on behalf of the New York State Association of Counties

March 12, 2008

We acknowledge Governor Eliot Spitzer for his decade of public service to the state.

On behalf of the 62 counties of New York State, we look forward to working with our next Governor David Paterson and legislative leaders to resolve many of the challenges facing New York’s counties.

As State Budget negotiations resume in the state capital, there is a tremendous amount at stake for New Yorkers in the coming two weeks before the start of the next state fiscal year, especially for county property taxpayers.

The New York State Association of Counties (NYSAC), founded in 1925, is a bi-partisan municipal association representing the 62 counties of New York State. NYSAC is the only statewide association representing the interests of nearly 5,000 elected and appointed officials, including county executives, legislators, supervisors, administrators, commissioners and other employees who deliver essential services to the public.
