Two Mandate Relief Measures On State Lawmakers Desks

With two days left in the legislative session, counties are asking lawmakers to pass two mandate relief bills.

  1. DA Salary Increase Reimbursement (S.7408A, Young/ A.10152A, Gunther). This measure will reimburse counties for the state-mandated increase in DA salaries enacted in April. The bill passed the Senate and awaits consideration in the Assembly Ways and Means Committee.
  2. Indigent Defense Services Reform (multiple bills). These bills will help balance the scales of justice by providing State reimbursement to counties for the costs of improving quality of legal services for the poor. The bills await action in both houses.
