Wednesday's news from counties across the state.
NYSACThe County Perspective on the State of the State
As state lawmakers return to Albany to conduct the people's business and Governor Andrew Cuomo his regional state of the state addresses, it is important to take note of and communicate the state of our counties, and the role the state plays in the county property tax levy.
The largest expense for counties continue to be state mandates.
NYSAC Shared Services Report (2014)
The recession, the state-imposed property tax cap, and the Governor's most recent proposal to provide property tax rebates has put a renewed public focus on shared services at the local level. Despite the fact that local governments across the state have been effectively sharing services and consolidating functions or departments for decades, these projects are often not widely publicized or replicated. With this report, we hope to begin changing that.
NYSAC's 2014 Shared Services report includes a collection of innovative ideas for local government efficiency, effectiveness and cost savings.
This is a living document, and will evolve and grow as we receive additional input from our members.
