SYRACUSE - The New York State Association of Counties (NYSAC) presented its NYSAC Leadership Award to NYS Senate Deputy Majority Leader John A. DeFrancisco last week as part of the Association's Annual Meeting.
 
"This award symbolizes government achievement, specifically county government achievement, and is presented to persons providing exemplary leadership toward the betterment of county government," said NYSAC Executive Director Stephen J. Acquario as he was presenting the award.
 
Senator DeFrancisco represents the 50th Senate District, which covers Onondaga and Cayuga counties. He was recognized for his legislative leadership this year on issues of primary concern for counties across the state.

"The demands on the State - from downstate and upstate - are many, and there is fierce competition for state resources," said NYSAC Past President William E. Cherry. "Senator DeFrancisco has been a tireless champion for our counties, ensuring that all of the issues -upstate and downstate - get addressed both during the budget season and end of session legislative activity." 
 
NYSAC recognized the Senator's leadership in ensuring that expanding indigent defense legal services was paid for by the state, and also for his efforts to move county home rule bills during this year's Extraordinary Session.
 
Senator DeFrancisco said, "I am extremely pleased to receive this high honor from the New York State Association of Counties. I would like to thank NYSAC upon receiving this award."
