Albany County Executive Daniel McCoy will be leading the way for county executives in New York State and nationwide over the coming year. McCoy, who was elected president of the NYS County Executives Association this week, is also serving a term as president of the County Executives of America (CEA).

 

The NYS County Executives Association is comprised of 19 bipartisan chief executives from counties across the state. It is an affiliate of the New York State Association of Counties(NYSAC). The 19 county executives oversee counties with charter forms of government.

 

Earlier this summer, McCoy was elected to serve as President of the County Executives of America at their annual conference in Nashville, TN. He was elected to serve as President of the NYS Association of County Executives today, at the NYS Association of Counties Fall Seminar in Rochester, NY.

 

"While partisanship grips the federal government, County Executives across America are charting a different path forward by working together to deliver innovative services for those most in need in our communities while driving down costs to taxpayers," said Albany County Executive Daniel P. McCoy. "I am humbled to lead both of these renowned organizations as we replicate the progress seen in Albany County, emulate the successes shared by my colleagues, and advocate for our fair share in Washington."

He is an excellent choice to advocate for and represent County Executives at the state and federal level," said Joanie Mahoney, the immediate past president of the NYS County Executives Association and Onondaga County Executive.

 

County Executive McCoy was first elected to the position of Albany County Executive in November 2011 and reelected in 2015. He is a strong advocate for counties and led the effort to achieve state reforms to the indigent legal defense services program.

 

County leaders will be watching and advocating around several state and national policy issues with local impact over the coming year: election cyber security, sports betting, internet sales tax, raising the age of criminal responsibility, and the opioid crisis, among many others.
