New York State Association of Counties (NYSAC) Applauds Congressional Formula for Providing Relief to Support COVID-19 Response on the Ground

NY County Leaders Support Recovery Aid for Front Line Localities
A statement by NYSAC President John F. (Jack) Marren in support of continued negotiations between congressional leaders and the White House on an interim emergency coronavirus relief package, or the COVID-19 3.5 supplemental package.

“New York counties thank all the New York Congressional Delegation, and in particular Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, for continued efforts to create a state and local recovery aid formula that will help county governments. We support the funding formula being discussed by congressional leaders, and applaud the state's congressional members for their steadfast leadership during this historic public health and economic crisis. This federal support is critical during these extraordinary times and we urge federal lawmakers to pass this funding aid formula to provide direct support to the state and to the local governments who are working every day to stop the spread and help those most in need.”

A recent NYSAC report estimates that counties could lose as much as $2 billion in revenue as a result of the economic shutdown (Coronavirus Economic Impact: County Sales Tax Revenue Projections).
