Statement by NYSAC Executive Director Stephen J. Acquario in response to the Governor’s Executive Order that allows for in-person special educational services in New York State this summer.

These in-person services are particularly important for students who have been acutely affected by the closure of in-classroom schooling since March.

“On behalf of the 62 counties of New York, which provide for and fund summer school special education services, the New York State Association of Counties (NYSAC) applauds Governor Cuomo for allowing in-person special education services to continue this summer. These in-person services are particularly important for students who have been acutely affected by the closure of in-classroom schooling since March.

We also applaud Dutchess County Executive Marcus Molinaro for his direct efforts to persuade the Governor to enable these services. County Executive Molinaro has worked tirelessly for special needs children and has a championed a ThinkDIFFERENTLY! campaign. The County Executive's efforts are making a positive difference for thousands of children and their families across the state.”
