Position: Assistant District Attorney

Location: Tompkins County, NY

Responsibilities:

As an Assistant District Attorney, you will play a crucial role in the pursuit of justice within our community. Your responsibilities will include:

  1. Prosecution: Effectively prosecute criminal cases, ranging from misdemeanors to felonies, in accordance with state and federal laws.
  2. Legal Research: Conduct thorough legal research to build strong cases, ensuring a comprehensive understanding of relevant statutes and case law.
  3. Courtroom Advocacy: Represent the State in court proceedings, presenting cases persuasively, and advocating for the interests of justice.
  4. Collaboration: Work closely with law enforcement agencies, victim advocates, and other legal professionals to ensure seamless coordination throughout the legal process.
  5. Case Management: Manage a caseload efficiently, from initial investigation through trial, while maintaining accurate and up-to-date case records.
  6. Community Outreach: Engage with the community through educational programs and outreach initiatives to promote understanding of legal processes and foster positive relationships, with a particular emphasis on building relationships with multicultural and multiracial communities. Utilizing knowledge and understanding of systemic issues within the criminal justice system to enhance community relationships and address disparities.

Qualifications & Abilities:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Admittance to the New York State Bar.
  • Strong understanding of criminal law and legal procedures.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Prior experience in criminal prosecution is preferred but not required.
  • Demonstrated strong knowledge and understanding of systemic issues within the criminal justice system.
  • Ability to successfully work with multiracial and multicultural communities.
  • Ability to develop and maintain working relationships with diverse internal and external community members.
