Do you have a passion for fiscal management and strategic financial planning? Tompkins County is looking for a highly responsible professional with such passion to serve as the County’s Budget Director.

The Budget Director will work in coordination with county administration, departments, elected officials and local stakeholders to oversee budget development, financial planning and resource allocation that contributes to the fiscal health and sustainability of our community.  By leveraging and embracing innovative technology, the Budget Director will foster transparent communication and collective decision making while ensuring our budget aligns with the needs and aspirations of the community.

As the Budget Director, you will be responsible for coordination and preparation of the County Administrator’s proposed budget, the County’s Capital Budget and the final adopted budget documents as required by the County Charter. You will also provide a wide variety of high level analytical and forecasting reports, including tax cap calculations and fringe rate calculations used in policy formation, program implementation and provision of services to County residents.

This is a Management grade 87 position with a salary of $85,550.40 Hire rate and $92,976.00 Work rate after 9 months. The Budget Director is a non-competitive position – no Civil Service exam required.
