DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: The Director of Planning and Development is responsible for administering, and supervising activities in the office. The position involves responsibility for the development, oversight, and coordination of a comprehensive planning program for the County by providing technical assistance to municipalities in areas such as land usage, business development, waste management, and water resource management. The position also involves representing the County on a variety of planning related organizations and boards. The work is performed under the specific administrative and supervisory direction of the County Administrator and the general direction of the County Board of Supervisors. This position has the power to appoint deputies, assistants and employees as may be necessary; such appointments must be approved by the Board of Supervisors.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
A. Possession of a Bachelor’s Degree in planning, architecture, engineering, environment studies, or a closely related field and four (4) years of experience in economic development or municipal planning activities; OR
B. Possession of a Master’s Degree in public administration, planning, architecture, engineering, environment studies, or an underlying degree in those or a closely related field and two (2) years of experience as specified in (A) above; OR
C. An equivalent combination of training and experience within the limits of (A) and (B) above.
NOTES:
1. Candidates MUST submit a copy of transcripts showing degree area and date degree conferred with application.
2. Degree(s) must have been awarded by a college or university accredited by a regional, national, or specialized agency recognized as an accrediting agency by the U.S. Department of Education/ U.S. Secretary of Education. If the degree was awarded by an educational institution outside the United States and its territories, the candidate must provide independent verification of equivalency.
