NYSAC is sounding the alarm over proposed federal Medicaid cuts that could devastate New York’s healthcare system, threaten health coverage for millions of residents, and strain county governments already operating under significant fiscal pressure.

After failed attempts to reach a compromise with Governor Hochul and State Legislators, the New York State Association of Counties (NYSAC) is calling on state leaders to reject any language in the state budget that would establish a new mandate on all counties to develop individual EMS plans with oversight under a Statewide EMS council.

In recognition of Earth Day, the New York State Association of Counties (NYSAC) is urging the State Legislature to pass the Packaging Reduction and Recycling Infrastructure Act (S.1464/A.1749)—and to strengthen the bill by explicitly including printed paper under its provisions. The legislation represents an opportunity to address New York's growing waste management crisis while easing the financial burden on local governments. 

In recognition of National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week, the New York State Association of Counties (NYSAC) released recommendations for strengthening 9-1-1 services in New York. The report outlines the challenges counties face, exposes critical funding issues, and provides clear policy recommendations to build a stronger emergency communications system, including urging the state to end the diversion of 9-1-1 funds.

Five years after the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, county leaders this week released an after-action report designed to document the county response, challenges overcome, strides made in counties’ preparedness for protecting public health in communities across the state.
