Operation Green Light

About Operation Green Light

Operation Green Light is a collaboration between the NYSAC, NYSCEA, the NYS County Veteran Service Officers' Association, and the 62 counties of New York State. Its mission is to show support for veterans of all military conflicts, with a special emphasis on the veterans of Iraq and Afghanistan, as well as raise awareness about the challenges faced by many veterans and the resources that are available at the county, state, and federal level to assist veterans and their families.

How to Participate?

Operation Green Light is about shining a light on the service of our veterans. While studies show the vast majority of Americans support America’s veterans, too often that support is not seen or felt by service men and women.

Operation Green Light aims to change that.

Individuals

Individuals can participate by simply changing one light bulb in their house to a green bulb. This can be an exterior light that neighbors and passersby see, or an interior light that sparks a conversation with friends.

By shining a green light, you let veterans know that they are seen, appreciated, and supported.

While this event is focused around the week of Veterans Day (November 7th-13th), we encourage individuals to continue to shine the light year-round.

Be sure to share your participation on social media using the hashtag #OperationGreenlight.

Green Light Bulbs can be purchased at these or other retailers: AmazonWalmartLowesHome Depot.

Governments/Businesses

Operation Green Light encourages counties, towns, villages, private businesses, and organizations to light their buildings in green from November 7th through 13th.

We encourage you to announce your participation ahead of time via press release and through social media posts (see below for samples) and during the week of November 7th.

Use the hashtag #OperationGreenLight in your posts so others can easily find them.
