Supporting New York's Veterans

New York's counties play an important role in ensuring that veterans and their families can access the benefits, services, and support they've earned.

Through County Veterans Service Agencies, counties help veterans navigate federal and state benefits, access health care and other resources, and connect with programs that support their well-being. Counties also work with community organizations and government partners to address challenges related to housing, mental health, transportation, and the transition to civilian life.

The New York State Association of Counties (NYSAC) works to strengthen these services through advocacy, collaboration, and the sharing of successful local practices. By bringing together county leaders, veterans service professionals, and state and federal partners, we're working to ensure that New York's veterans receive the support they deserve.

Presidential Task Force on Veterans Services and Support

Established in 2026 at the direction of NYSAC President Dr. Kevin D. Watkins, the Presidential Task Force on Veterans Services and Support brings together county leaders and veterans services professionals to examine how New York's counties can better serve veterans and their families.

The Task Force is working to identify the challenges facing veterans and County Veterans Service Agencies, highlight successful local initiatives, and develop recommendations to strengthen services and support across New York State.

Its work will help inform NYSAC's advocacy efforts and provide county officials with practical ideas for improving veterans services in their communities.
