SALARY: $49,636 - $55,841 (Deputy Clerk salary range) dependent on experience.
$60,060 - $67,567 (Clerk salary range) dependent on experience.

VACANCY: At the present time, there is one full-time (35 hours/week) opening in the Schuyler County Legislative Office for a Deputy Clerk of the Legislature who, if successful, may be considered for the appointment of Clerk of the Legislature upon the December 2025 retirement of the current Clerk. This is considered an unclassified position and there is NO Civil Service exam requirement.

RESIDENCY REQUIREMENT: Candidates for the Clerk of the Legislature position MUST BE a legal resident of Schuyler County at time of appointment. Deputy Clerk candidates must be legal residents of Schuyler or a contiguous (Chemung, Seneca, Steuben, Tompkins and Yates) county at time of application.

JOB DESCRIPTION: To assist the Clerk of the Legislature in the performance of her duties and to act for and on behalf the Clerk in his/her absence. To be informed and provide assistance in any manner possible to the members of the Legislature and the Chairman to alleviate the routine tasks and enable them to concentrate on their legislative duties. The work is performed under general supervision of the Clerk with leeway for the exercise of independent judgment in carrying out details of work.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Either:
A. Possession of an Associate’s Degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Office Technology, or a closely related field and two years of upper-level administrative or secretarial experience (with preference for experience working for a municipality of New York State); or
B. Four years of experience as described in A.

Note: Your degree must have been awarded by a college or university accredited by a regional, national, or specialized agency recognized as an accrediting agency by the U.S. Department of Education/U.S. Secretary of Education. If your degree was awarded by an educational institution outside the United States and its territories, you must provide independent verification of equivalency. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Notary Public Certification is preferred but not required at the time of appointment. The incumbent must obtain the certification within one (1) year of being appointed
