New Report Details How Federal Budget Proposals Threaten Counties

Following our meetings in Washington, NYSAC released a new report that outlines the projected financial and service impacts of proposed federal cuts to Medicaid, SNAP, and other core programs that counties help deliver every day. It includes detailed analysis of how these changes would shift billions of dollars in costs onto New York State—and ultimately, onto county governments and property taxpayers.

Informed by our conversations with the National Association of Counties (NACo), New York’s Congressional Delegation and Congressional staff, the report highlights the real-world consequences for local governments: cost shifts to counties, pressure on public health and human services, and a surge in demand for additional county assistance programs.
